Brihaspati (Jupiter) is the guru of the Devas -- the divine teacher who guides the gods with his supreme wisdom. Son of sage Angiras, he is the most benevolent planet, bestowing knowledge, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
Brihaspati's wisdom once saved the gods from defeat at the hands of the Asuras. While the Asuras had their own guru Shukracharya, only Brihaspati could counsel the Devas toward righteous victory. He is associated with the color yellow, the sacred syllable Om, and Thursday.
Jupiter is the great benefic, expanding everything he touches. His blessings bring children, wealth, wisdom, and dharmic conduct. In Vedic astrology, Jupiter's transit (Guru Gochar) is one of the most significant events, often marking turning points in life.
